SKIES
The children enjoy studying all the different ways that the skies are portrayed by
different artists. They use a variety of media to explore their own interpretations
of the sky.
THE SHAPES AND COLOURS OF A SUMMER SKY
This unit of work explores the topic of skies and how they are depicted by a range
of artists such as Van Gogh, Turner, Dali and Constable. (Georgia O'Keeffe and Charles
Burchfield.)
Learning objectives will include:-
- Building confidence in using a variety of media to depict skies.
- Exploring the different effects of a range of materials and tools.
- Exploring how images are built up in layers.
- Creating textures and 3D effects from everyday materials.
- Exploring the variety of shades available from basic colours and the effect they
create e.g. thundery, sunny, cool, rain filled skies
- To be more aware of our natural environment, focussing on texture, colour, line and
form.
- To develop the ability to record directly from first hand experience and observation.
- Experimenting with an art package on the computer to create a sky in the style of
an artist being studied.
- To practise creating a sky picture using a very limited palette of colours like Burchfield.
