TUDORS / STUARTS

 

H.S.U. 2 - Life in Wales and Britain in the Tudor and Stuart times. This term we look at the Tudor period, focussing on daily life, houses and households. The BBC video series called How We Used To Live provides the basic stimulus for the project.

 

Pupils will also will explore the interactive programme ‘Betsy’. This is an adventure game that explores a Tudor town and its inhabitants. The pupils will work in twos or threes to complete the work, keeping a small note book to log their explorations in.

 

Listen to stories from the Tudor period or about the Tudor period to develop an awareness of the past, particularly those stories relating to Wales in the Tudor Times.

 

Look at the lives of people in Tudor times and make distinctions between their own lives and those of the Tudors.

 

Begin to recognise that there are reasons why people acted the way they did in the past.

 

Show their understanding of the Tudor period through writing, drama, pictures and talking.

 

The older pupils will also learn to use specialist terms in a way that indicates understanding. e.g. Trade, agriculture, archaeology, the royal court.

 

Use resources such as books and ROMS to complete simple research on historical topics such as leisure and entertainment, law and order, houses and households.

 

Select and organise historical information – materials used on the Mary Rose

 

Describe main events, situations and changes within the Tudor period.

 

Know about a Tudor personalities.

 

Having explored the materials used in their daily lives, be able to talk about the problems the Tudors faced in clothing themselves, obtaining food and protecting themselves. Science work on changing materials supports this area of work.

 

Take part in a Tudor feast and prepare simple foods such as bread, vegetable broth and marzipan sweets.
