  • Use geographical skills and enquiry to consider the locality of the school, its buildings and the immediate vicinity.  
  • Observe and collect information in the field to use in their map work and answer the question' Where are things in my locality?'  
  • Give and follow directions from the school to places in the village and estimate distances.  
  • Through their work, reach a better understanding of their own locality and become aware of the wider world. Answer the question' what is this place like?' Investigate where they could travel to buy trainers and how far it would be.
  • Begin to respond to the question," Why are things like that?" from their observations.  
  • Use maps, atlases and globes. Use resources, including photographs, to investigate the locality of Eyton and its immediate vicinity- match photographs of the vicinity with maps.
  • Record routes and directions on local maps, identifying features in sequence.
  • Mark routes on a large scale local map, describe routes and estimate distances.
  • Be able to consider the locality of Eyton and in the broader context of a map of the Wales and the British Isles, and begin to talk about the areas links with other places.- Look at road networks, airports and ports in Wales.
  • Use their mapping work to observe and ask questions about local features such as why is Eyton here? Why is it laid out like it is? How did it develop over time? Is Eyton changing? What environmental threats does Eyton face in the future?  
  • Present opinions and communicate findings from their investigations about the use of land in the village area.
  • Become familiar with O.S. features on maps.
  • Make and use maps in a variety of scales such as sketch maps, height of land in the area, use 4 figure grid references.
