In Wales, statutory education begins in the term after a child's fifth birthday. However, it has been a long standing tradition in the country, of children starting their school education earlier than this. The term 'early years' covers the period before compulsory education, when children are between the ages of 3 and 5 years. Children of Nursery age are welcomed at Eyton School every afternoon of the school week.
The class teacher works closely with a NNEB and a classroom assistant to ensure the children receive the education that is suited to their ages and ability levels. There is a big emphasis on learning through play during this stage of the child's education and Eyton School has recognised the importance of this by purchasing many new resources for the Early Years Department.
When the class teacher and her assistants plan for Early Years children, they take into account six major areas of learning. These are:
Language, Literacy and Communication
Personal and Social Development
Mathematical Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Creative Development
Physical Development
You are always welcome to discuss any areas of Early Years education with relevant staff at the school.
